Our Story

59 Degrees funnels all of its energy and findings from research into producing soil regenerating products and educating growers.

We operate from Skillebyholm College for biodynamic cultivation in Sweden, where our work is incorporated into their curriculum.

The products we make are the results of years of research and hard work, and are designed to help plants thrive by regenerating the natural state of soil environments using 100% sane methods.

Our products and services are used by domestic gardeners and growers who want higher yielding and less damaging alternatives to chemical fertilisers, and also by large scale growers whose livelihoods rely on the longevity and quality of the land they farm. A quarter of our profits go back into research and development – paving the way for further horticultural innovation.

At the heart of 59 Degrees is Hen The Compost – a living, breathing friend with an active Twitter account.

The answer to a healthy planet is right under our feet.

We got tired of all the horrible toxic, synthesised products on the market responsible for (you know what) so we decided to do some good business and make products we're proud of. Now, 59 Degrees is making soil great again through our Soil Biology product range.

Breaking news! Feeding up your pumpkins with chemicals for a month won’t help to improve life for the plant, for you or the planet. The future of plant care relies upon research into fresh, innovative solutions (aka Soil Biology).

Years of research into soil microbiology at 59 Degrees has led us to develop a revolutionary range of products that utilise soil microorganisms to boost natural soil cultures. Soil Biology holds the key to healthy soil, thriving plants, and a recovering planet. Most importantly, it’s something that can be practiced at any scale – from a single potted flower to an entire agricultural system.

This process is happening right now. We’re calling it the Green Renaissance. Revive your soil, be the change and let your plant express its best self.

The Science

Soil forms just a tiny slice of the Earth’s crust, and yet it is the interface between the physical and biological worlds, transforming a harsh, rocky planet into the fertile world that we know.In other words, soil with life is rock.

Soil is a rich, living and breathing structure that has co-evolved over millions of years alongside both flora and fauna. It is the most complex and biodiverse ecosystem on Earth and is a hub for a shed load of life supporting cycles and interactions.

On the surface, plant health reflects the vitality of the soil below, and fundamentally, the vitality of the soil depends upon the life within it. So, in order to achieve optimum plant health, we must first look at the state of the living organisms within the soil.

We reintroduce specific microorganisms into the exact area that the plant needs it, stimulating a flurry of natural biological activity, rejuvenating the wider soil environment and ultimately ensuring optimum health for your plant life. We can do this through compost, root injections or our specially tailored foliar feeding and soil care solutions.

By bringing the soil back to life using natural solutions like this, we can unlock the true potential of soil systems in a sustainable way, ensuring a long term answer to soil and plant health, whilst re-establishing a planet that is species rich and carbon stable.

What we do:

We operate from Skillebyholm College in Sweden, where our work has been incorporated into their curriculum. All of our products are rigorously tested in the growing systems here at the college.
